Jane E. Takvorian, a retired Latin and French teacher, passed away on Wednesday, the 7th of September.  She was 87.

Jane was born and raised in Nashua, New Hampshire to George C. and Helen Warren Dobens.  She received her bachelor’s and master’s of education degrees from Rivier University.  She married her best friend Haig K. Takvorian on July 22, 1961.  They were married 31 years until his death on November 23, 1992.

She taught for eleven years in Manchester, NH prior to her marriage.  She was a teacher at Glastonbury High School in Glastonbury, Connecticut for 33 years until her retirement in 1994.  She loved teaching and was fondly called Mrs. Tak by her students.  She had great respect from both her peers and her students.  She was a member of the National and Connecticut Education Associations.

She had an amazing sense of humor and an unwavering positive view of life.  She had many loves and interests including crossword puzzles and card games, shopping with her friends and her occasional martini.  She was a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan.  She volunteered for the Windham School Department and Windham Library.

She was a long time member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Glastonbury, CT and St. Matthew Parish in Windham, NH.

She leaves her daughter Joan E. Takvorian-Brown, son John H. Takvorian, grandchildren Austin J. Brown, Grace K. Takvorian, and Jacob C. Takvorian, and her beloved cat Jack.  She was predeceased by her husband Haig, her brothers Chester Dobens and Richard Dobens, and her sister Helene Dobens Dziedzina.

There will be memorial services at St. Matthew Parish and at Windham Terrace at a later date.  There will be no calling hours.  Burial will be private.
