Loving Memory of

Wanda Mae Beecher

Wanda Mae (Brayton) Beecher, age 96, resident of The Residence at Salem Woods in Salem, NH, widow of Jack Beecher, passed away on November 1, 2022, in her apartment at Salem Woods.

Born in 1926 in Fort Madison, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Lena Brayton. She had two sisters: Eleanor and Lillian, and two brothers: Russell and Elmer.

Jack and Wanda were married in 1942 and celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary shortly before Jack’s passing in 2014. Wanda is survived by two daughters: Janette and her husband Stephen Butterfield and Rebecca and her husband David DeCook; and son Alan and his wife Beth Beecher; as well as eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.

She was raised in and practiced the Methodist faith in many churches throughout Jack’s many career locations as an employee of DuPont over the years. When living in Pennsylvania, she was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Wilmington, Delaware, where she sang in the choir.

She loved golfing, swimming, bridge, ballroom dancing, sewing, and baking. She was an extraordinary musician. Growing up, she played the piano and sang in a trio with her two sisters. She also sang in the choir of the churches she attended over the years and at Maris Grove Retirement Community. In addition, she joined Sweet Adelines in the early 1960s and sang in numerous barbershop quartets and choruses located in West Virginia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, including the Valley Forge Chorus, when they won Sweet Adelines’ International Competition in 1983.

A memorial service will be held Monday, July 10, 2023 at 10 AM at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Wilmington, Delaware. Wanda will rest with her husband, Jack, in the Aldersgate Columbarium.
