Thomas Stevens Obituary

Thomas R. Stevens – Salem, NH

December 16, 1938 – June 6,2024

Thomas R. Stevens of Salem, NH passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.  Tom, the son of the late Mansur K. and Eva (Williams) Stevens, was a lifelong resident of Salem, graduating in 1957 from Woodbury High School before enlisting in the Air Force.

Tom served three years of active duty in the Air Force, from 1957 – 1960, stationed on San Clemente Island in California. His three years of active duty were followed by three years in the Air Force reserves, after which he began his career as a land surveyor.  Tom’s career in land surveying started out with Tom Moran in Bedford, NH, before eventually opening his own office in Salem from which he retired in 2001.

Tom’s greatest joy in life came from his family. Tom married the love of his life, the late Nancy J. (Capille) Stevens, in 1965. After living briefly in Bargaintown, NJ, Tom and Nancy settled back in Salem to raise their family, which began in 1966 with the birth of their son Mark before welcoming two more children, Michael and Diana in 1972 and 1973. As his children grew, Tom loved nothing more than spending time attending their sporting events (and practices) as well as practicing with them in the backyard or at local ball fields. Tom’s devotion to family continued with the grandchildren he loved so dearly.  In retirement, a very proud Grandpa / Papa could always be found attending games and events to support his grandkids in any activity they were participating in. In addition to his family, Tom also loved to read, garden and watch the birds that flocked to his birdfeeder in the backyard.

Tom is survived by his three children, Mark (Lisa) Stevens of Londonderry, NH, Michael (Ellen) Stevens of Venice, FL, and Diana (Walter) McMahon of Manchester, NH, his six grandchildren, Zach, Josh, Nick, Ryan, Dan and Ayla, his sisters Barbara (the late Harry) Larsen of Salem, NH and Carolyn (the late Al) Rozzi of Tilton, NH and his brother Charles (Melba) Stevens of Arvada, Colorado, his sister in law Joyce (the late John) Stevens of Haverhill, MA, and many, many nieces, nephews and friends that loved him dearly.

In addition to his wife Nancy, his brother John, and brother in laws Harry and Al, Tom was predeceased by his sisters Harriet (the late Tom) Hannigan of Stoneham, MA and Elizabeth (Betty) Stevens of Salem, NH, and his brother Mansur K. (the late Deleen) Stevens of Pensacola, FL.
