Ruth S. Hargreaves McGuire – Derry, NH

Ruth S. (Hargreaves) McGuire passed away peacefully at home on July 26, 2024 surrounded by her husband and children after a two and a half year battle with cancer. Ruth was born in Methuen, MA on November 17, 1952 to Pickles Hargreaves Jr., and Dorothy E. (Atkinson) Hargreaves. She was the only daughter among their four children, and was certainly the feistiest. She was a graduate of Tenney High School and Northern Essex Community College. She worked as a bookkeeper with the local YMCA, and later with the Lawrence Community Action Council, from which she retired in 2020.

Ruth met her husband Michael P. McGuire at Salisbury Beach. They were married in 1979, and started their escapades in life. Together they had a daughter, Sara A. McGuire, and a son, Justin M. McGuire, into which Ruth instilled a love of reading and academic achievement. Additional surviving family members include her brothers Thomas H. Hargreaves and his wife Barbara, David A. Hargreaves and his wife Janet, Mark R. Hargreaves and his wife Rosemary, many nieces and nephews, and two grand-puppies. Ruth was predeceased by her parents and a son, Scott M. McGuire.

The McGuire family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the nurses, staff, and chaplain of Amedisys Hospice, who took excellent care of Ruth during her final days.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 4, 2024 from 2pm to 4pm at the Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home at 42 Main Street in Salem, NH. A private family burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen will take place at a later date.
