Roland “Skip” Alfred Routhier, 91, of Salem, NH passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family at his side in his home. He was one of five children of the late Donat and Merilda (Carrier) Routhier.
Roland grew up in Lawrence, Massachusetts graduating from Central Catholic High School. Upon graduation he served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 at Mather AFB in Sacramento, California, receiving an honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant. After returning from the service to the east coast he worked at Western Electric and AT&T for 32 years. In his retirement he enjoyed painting and wallpapering.
While in the service Skip enjoyed bowling, (actually that’s where his nickname came about, his technique.) He was extremely passionate about all Boston sports, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes or a game of 45’s and going deep sea fishing. Skip and his wife Phyllis were regulars at the Country Kitchen in Methuen for breakfast where he would order a cheese omelet “light on the cheese!” He loved his wife dearly. He will be missed BIG TIME (one of his favorite sayings).
Above all else, Skip loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and going to family events from weddings, cookouts, graduations, birthdays, Christmas parties, and ball games. He will be dearly missed by all of his beloved family and friends.
Roland was predeceased by his brothers Leo, Henry, Robert and his sister Claire Pond. He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Phyllis of Salem, NH; The mother of his children, Jeannette (St.Hilaire) Cline of Salem, NH; son Steven and his wife Kathy of Garner, NC; daughter Joyce and her husband Steve Mazalewski of Orefield, PA; son Michael and his wife Lynn of Salem, NH; son Kenneth and his wife Dorothy of Kingston, NH; daughter Carolyn and her husband Steve Gaudette of Salem, NH; son Scott and his wife Cindy of Salem, NH; and son Peter of Salem, NH. He is also survived by 16 Grandchildren and 28 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and countless friends whom he loved dearly.
