Richard J. Cunningham died September 23, 2020 at Holy Family Hospital, Methuen.
Rich was born in Weymouth to the late Margaret (Barry) Cunningham and Richard.
When he was a child, his family moved to New Hampshire, where they first lived in Seabrook, then Hampton and ultimately in Salem, where he grew up.
He was a 1988 graduate of Salem High, where he excelled in baseball.
“Richie” as he was known by his many friends, had a love of music, sports (the Bruins), food and movies.
He loved to play guitar, ‘collect’ music, burn CD’s, and attended hundreds of concerts.
Richie was on the ‘infamous’ 1985 Salem All Star team that finished 5th in the world (in the Little League World Series). He played defense (#29) on the legendary ‘White Anchor’ deck hockey team throughout the 1990’s.
Richie had a great sense of humor and through all the medical issues, he managed to keep laughing, maintained a positive outlook, and kept a smile on his face.
Richie was a great friend to many in the Salem area and will surely be missed.
“Dickie”, as he was fondly known by family, was the beloved nephew of Bob Barry of Quincy, and Mary (Barry) Conley of Yarmouthport. He was the loving cousin of Bill Conley of CT. Barry Conley of Virginia, Maura (Conley) Stanley, of Hopkinton, MA Sheila (Conley) Jackson of Cohasset, MA Kaitlin Barry of Weymouth, MA Meghan (Barry) Lee of Quincy, MA and Erin (Barry) Carcia of North Andover, MA.
At the request of the family, services will be private. A Celebration of “Rich’s Life” will take place down the road - post COVID.
