Raymond John Rancourt – Salem, NH

Raymond John Rancourt, age 83, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2022.

He was born August 2, 1939 in Lawrence, MA, son of the late Raymond Rancourt and Johanna (Lee) Rancourt.

Raymond grew up in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School, Class of 1957.   Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Radioman 3rd Class on the USS Antares until 1960.  Following his Honorable Discharge, Raymond began a 42-year career with Western Electric/Lucent Technologies as an Electrical Engineer.  Raymond spent 1968 to 1970 working for Western Electric on Kwajalein Island, Marshall Islands in support of Department of Defense missile testing and development.  Raymond returned home temporarily and on July 19, 1969, he married Dolores Rancourt at St. Monica’s Church in Methuen.  After completing the tour on Kwajalein, Raymond and Dolores settled permanently in Salem, N.H. in 1970.   Raymond continued his successful career and in 1993, he proudly graduated with his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Merrimack College in North Andover.  Following his retirement in 2001, Raymond continued to stay busy with part-time contractor positions providing his electrical engineering expertise to clients. 

Raymond was an avid tennis player and long-time member of Cedardale Tennis Club in Haverhill.   He also enjoyed golf, skiing and frequent exercise in the form of long walks around town with his adopted greyhound dogs.  He was a wonderful grandfather to five grandchildren and he will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife Dolores, Raymond is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Christine Rancourt and his son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Michelle Rancourt.  He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Jaidyn, Zoe, Michael, Caitlin and Colin.

Visiting hours will take place on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m at Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH.  A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on September 8, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St Joseph Church, 40 Main Street, Salem, NH.  Burial with military honors will follow immediately after the Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
