Raymond J. “Ray” Chmieleski – Salem, NH

Raymond J. “Ray” Chmieleski, 83, a lifelong resident of Salem, NH, passed away at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA, on Saturday, December 19, 2020. 

The son of the late Antoni and Susanna (Sierpina) Chmieleski, Ray was born in Salem, NH on August 6, 1937.  He was educated in Salem schools and was a graduate of Woodbury High School in Salem.  Ray severed in the United States Army from 1960-1966.  He was employed as a mechanic for Purity Supreme in Tewksbury, MA and Jac Pac Foods in Manchester, NH.  He was a member of St. Joseph Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Patriots fan. 

The husband of the late Joanne (Freund) Chmieleski, with whom he spent 53 years with until her death in December of 2016, Ray will also join his infant son, Raymond Anthony Chmieleski, brothers Woodrow “Woody” and Leonard Chmieleski, and sisters Matilda Martineau, Barbara Medina and Lillian Grzesik.   

Ray will be sadly missed by his sons Michael Chmieleski of Ossipee, NH; Mark Chmieleski and his wife Tracy of Saratoga Springs, UT; Stephen Chmieleski and his wife Jennifer of Haverhill, MA; daughter Colleen Thomas and her husband Troy of Salem, NH; grandchildren Tyler, Caitlyn and Ethan Chmieleski of Saratoga Springs, UT; Kaylee and Connor Chmieleski of Haverhill, MA; Abigail, Darah and Lily Thomas of Salem, NH; as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Calling hours are December 30, 2020, from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM at Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079.  Guests are requested to follow State of NH guidelines for wearing masks and social distancing.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the calling hours at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church in Salem.  Burial with U.S. Army Honors will follow the Mass in Pine Grove Cemetery in Salem.  In-lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org .  Please visit www.goundreydewhirstfuneral.com for directions or to sign the online guest book.
