Philip James Barbieri, 80, passed away peacefully on the evening of September 11, 2026. Born on June 2, 1946, Philip was a proud Merrimack Valley native who grew up in Lawrence, Massachusetts where he graduated from Lawrence High School in 1963. He spent his career in manufacturing before retiring in 2008. Philip was a man who believed in hard work and took great pride in building a stable life for those he loved. He was dependable and generous with his time and was the kind of person who could always be counted on when someone needed a hand.
Those who knew Philip will remember that his kindness was often shown through the things he simply did without being asked. His neighbors, in particular, knew this well. On snowy mornings, Philip was often up before the crack of dawn, making sure his neighbors were shoveled out. It was simply who he was: if there was work to be done and someone who needed help, Philip was there.
And while Philip worked hard, he also knew how to enjoy life. Fishing, hunting, metal-detecting, spending time at the Rockingham Racetrack, and exploring the outdoors were among the things that brought him happiness. Philip found a new joy when he became a Papa. He loved to spend time with his granddaughter, always seeming to show up with a new stuffed animal for her that was three times her size.
Philip leaves behind his son, Nicholas James Barbieri, his daughter-in-law, Tracy Barbieri. and his granddaughter, Florence James Barbieri, of Derry, New Hampshire. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond Barbieri, and sister-in-law, Dianna Barbieri, of Fort Myers, Florida, along with numerous nieces and nephews throughout the Merrimack Valley. He was predeceased by his former wife, Vicki Barbieri, of Hudson, New Hampshire, his brother, Robert Barbieri, of Methuen, Massachusetts, and his parents, Felice and Attelina Barbieri, of Lawrence, Massachusetts.
Philip will be remembered not only for the life he built, but for the people he helped, the friendships he made, and the quiet ways he showed that he cared. His was a life marked by hard work, loyalty, generosity, and a love of the outdoors. The impact of those simple acts of kindness will remain with the people who had the privilege of knowing him.
Per Philip’s wishes, his life will be honored at a small and private celebration of life surrounded by family and close friends. Arrangements are by the Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home 42 Main Street, Salem, NH. To leave an online condolence, please visit Philip’s tribute page at www.goundreydewhirstfuneral.com.
