Peggy George Obituary

Peggy George – Salem, NH

Peggy George, age 79, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and friends, after a long battle with kidney cancer.  She was born on September 8, 1940 in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Frank and Hazel (Carey) Perry. She married her long-time friend and love, Joseph George, in March of 1960, and they were happily married for 60 years. Peggy retired from Sousa Semiconductor and worked for several years at ITT in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

She loved helping people, spreading kindness, and was very active in her local community. A talented seamstress, quilter, and knitter, she volunteered for the non-profit organization Newborns in Need.  She was also very active with the local senior citizens and enjoyed spending time with her friends from the Ingram Senior Center in Salem, NH. She never missed a chance to play BINGO and she never met a casino she didn’t like.

Family holidays were always a special time. Peggy enjoyed traveling to Florida to be with her extended family. She enjoyed preparing everyone’s favorite foods and had many specialties like banana cream pie, macaroni and cheese, and her homemade bread stuffing. Her cooking was second to none and will be sadly missed.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Joseph and her two daughters: Julie and husband Rob Schwarz of Florida and Kim and husband Abe Yap of California, and her loving grandchildren, Emily, Aidan, and Kayla.

She is also survived by her youngest sister, Patricia Whittington and her other siblings, Frank, Roger, Paul, and Shirley.  Her longtime friend Rita Doyle, and her amazing support system: Carl Neely, and Elizabeth & David Driscoll also survive her.

In-lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Peggy’s name to: Town of Salem Senior Center, 1 Sally Sweets Way, Salem, NH 03079 or The Salvation Army online at: give.salvationarmyusa.org.  Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079 is entrusted with the arrangements.  There are no calling hours.  A Graveside Service will take place on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 11 AM at Pine Grove Cemetery in Salem, NH.  Anyone wishing to attend should meet the family at the cemetery.  To sign the online guest book please visit www.goundreydewhirstfuneral.com
