Nangwood P Leung

Nangwood Philip Leung, 81, of Salem, NH passed away gently in his sleep on September 10, 2023, at home after a lengthy battle with cancer.  He was surrounded by his beloved wife Helen of 51 years, three children and their immediate family.

Philip was born on August 10, 1942, in Guangdong Province of China, and was one of five children of Leung Chi Kui and Lee Oi King. He lived in Hong Kong until 1989 when he immigrated with his wife and children to America for a new life of opportunity, a move that his daughters will forever be grateful for. 

Before retirement, Philip worked at Fairfield Inn in Andover, MA. Philip will be fondly remembered as a loving supportive grandfather. His love of Chinese opera inspired his grandson Preston to perform and shine in both school and life. His love for drawing animals was a precious trait that passed on to his talented granddaughter Megan. He doted on his granddaughter Janice, allowing her to use his computer to play games and watch nursery rhymes, and encouraging her to be a great student.

Philip was an avid reader of Car and Driver and National Geographic magazines with stacks that could rival any hoarders.  He also enjoyed target shooting with BB guns, albeit at the expense of some walls and maybe a window at one point.  He was also known to always bundle up in a fleece or sweater vest regardless of the weather. The family annual picture taken at birthday celebrations at Takumi restaurant will never be the same without him.

He is survived by his wife, Laichu Helen (Yuen) Leung; daughter Joyce and her husband Phillip Wong of Salem, NH; daughter Macy and her husband Kenneth Chu of Nashua, NH; daughter Patsy and her fiancé James Huff of Derry, NH; three grandchildren, Preston, Janice and Megan, feline grandson Quinton; siblings Matilda Tang, Regina Lee, Selina Cheung and their spouses; several nieces, nephews and extended family.  In addition to his parents, Philip was predeceased by his older brother John.

Family and friends are invited to visitation from 9 to 10am on Tuesday September 19, 2023, at the Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home 42 Main Street, Salem, NH. Funeral service will begin at 10am, followed by the burial from 12:30 to 1pm at Forest Hills Cemetery 95 Forest Hills Ave, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
