Nancy Flaherty Obituary

Nancy G. Flaherty – Atkinson, NH

 

Nancy G. Flaherty, 85, most recently of Brentwood NH, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026 at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her family.

 

Nancy was born on May 14, 1940 in Medford, Mass., to Earl and Gertrude Warren.  Nancy is predeceased by both of her parents as well as her brothers Donald, John, James and Joel, and her sister Martha.

 

Nancy graduated from Medford High School, raised 5 children with former husband James Flaherty III, then went on to graduate from Castle Jr. College, and New Hampshire College with a degree in Human Services.  Nancy held various jobs, but the most fulfilling was her work for the State of NH Department of Health and Human Services in the Catastrophic Illness Program, from which she retired.

 

Nancy enjoyed and excelled at puzzles, reading, sewing, and crafting.  She made many amazing and original costumes for her grandchildren. Nancy had a great love of music, with her idol being Elvis Presley.  She found great joy and peace in his songs, both popular and gospel.

 

Nancy found great comfort, friendships, and sisterhood as an Associate of the Sisters of Mercy. Nancy was predeceased by her dear friend, roommate, and mentor, Sr. Dorothy Cormier. Nancy had many devoted friends that enriched her life with their visits during her recent decline.

 

Nancy was predeceased by her son James Flaherty IV, and leaves behind her children:  Scott and Diana Flaherty; Julie and Rob Sarbieski; Sharon and John Dostie and estranged son Joel Flaherty. Nancy also leaves behind her daughter in law Pamela and grandchildren: James V, Jonathan, Stephanie, Bret, Matthew, Eric, and Jenna, and many nieces and nephews.

 

At the request of Nancy, there will be no calling hours. There will be a private service at Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Cancer Society.
