Manuel Phillip Costa – Salem, NH
Manuel Phillip Costa passed peacefully into Heaven at Holy Family Hospital on October 4, 2022, with his family by his side.
Manny was born March 22, 1946, in East Boston to Angelina Catherine (Terramagra) and Manuel Carvallo Costa. Manny graduated from Salem High School in 1964 and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1966. Manny Married Margaret J. Lodge in April of 1968. They had two Daughters. Manny apprenticed as an Optician for Fritz and Holly in New Haven, CT. He was a licensed optician in NH and MA. He ran his own shop for a time on Main Street in Salem, NH. He worked for Dr. Frederick Rose in Haverhill, MA and for Dr. Yvonne Tsai in Hampstead, NH before becoming New Hampshire's first "Traveling Optician".
Manny was an avid reader, particularly of World War II history. He enjoyed fishing and went on several trips with his brother Paul up North. Manny loved hunting and the great Northwoods. He was a member at 'the Pelham Fish and Game Club for a time. Manny enjoyed music, good food, and the company of great friends. He had a terrific sense of humor.
Manny was predeceased by his beloved mother Angelina Catherine (Terramagra), his father Manuel Carvallo Costa, and his brother Paul Louis Costa. He will be deeply missed by his two surviving daughters Emily Catherine Costa of Saco, ME and Jennifer Elizabeth McCulloch and her husband David McCulloch of Salem, NH. He is also survived by his sister Rose-Marie Costa, granddaughter Sofia Marie Narinkevicuis, several cousins, his ex-wife Margaret Costa and many friends.
Calling hours are 5-7pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy., Boscawen, NH 03303.
