Loren Charles Broady – Salem, NH

Loren Charles Broady, 68, of Salem, NH passed away on August 31, 2022 after a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He and wife Sharon (Duhamel) Broady had just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Born in Meriden, CT on March 5, 1954 he was the son of Dr. Harold and Sylvia (Reif) Broady.  He graduated from Cheshire (CT) High School class of 1972. 

Loren was a man of many talents and interests.  He was a self-taught mechanic and rarely came across a mechanical problem he could not diagnosis and quickly solve.  He was an inventor of many things, and an enthusiastic entrepreneur.  As owner of Windham Marine and Power Sports for more than 30 years, he was most proud of obtaining a patent for his Quick Straight Prop Shaft straightening tool.

Loren was an “adrenaline junkie” before that term entered the lexicon. He obtained his private pilot’s license at age 16, loved all water sports, and went on to participate in drag racing and snowmobile racing. He had a love of muscle cars, meticulously restoring a 1970 Chevelle 450 SS.

After losing his beloved dogs Magnum, Taylor and Maggie, he became a Pet Food Specialist and an advocate for holistic pet care and nutrition, wanting people to be able to enjoy their pets for as long as possible. 

Loren was also an avid fan of Boston sports teams and during playoff seasons his livingroom was the scene of many loud and enthusiastic gatherings. And he was an amazing cook, presiding, along with Sharon, over countless family holiday dinners.  Loren’s potato latkes were legendary.

Loren is survived by his beloved wife Sharon, and his sons and their spouses:  Joshua and Katelyn Broady of Pelham, NH, Aaron and Yisul Broady of Bedford, NH, David and Alyssa Hunt of Windham NH plus four granddaughters: Everly Broady, Navy Hunt, Haven Hunt and Leighton Hunt.  He is also survived by his mother Sylvia Broady of Manchester, NH, and siblings Cynthia Broady of Bow, NH, Mark and Carrie Broady of Shelburne Falls, MA and Andrew Broady of Windham NH, as well as 10 nieces and 4 nephews.  In addition, he is also survived by in-laws John and Genia Duhamel of Valdez, AK, Kathleen and Daniel Cvelbar of Murietta, CA, and Mark and Joan Duhamel of Rochester, NH.  Loren also leaves behind his four-legged family members Daisy and Boomer.

There are no calling hours. There will be a Celebration of Life held for Loren at Castleton Banquet and Conference Center, Windham, NH on Wednesday, September 21, from 5:00 – 9:00 PM.
