John “Jack” Howard, Sr. – Salem, NH
John “Jack” Howard, Sr. age 88 of Salem, NH passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. He was born on January 9, 1933 in Medford, MA the son of the late John J. and Anna (McCauley) Howard. He was raised and educated in Medford. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged.
Jack worked as a typewriter repairman for over 25 years. He also worked at the U.S. Post Office in Lawrence, MA for almost 15 years, retiring in 1997.
He enjoyed water color painting and was an avid sports fan who loved dogs. Jack had a great sense of humor and was always ready to tell you a good joke.
Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara D. (Duffin) Howard of Salem, NH, his daughter, Anne Howard of Salem, NH, his son, John Howard and wife, Juanitta of Derry, NH, his daughter, Mary Lutkus and husband, Ronald of Lowell, MA, his daughter, Phyllis Howard and fiancé, Michael Holmes of Salem, NH and his son, Philip Howard and partner, Jim Sargent of Boston, MA. Five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews also survive him. He was also predeceased by his three sisters.
Calling hours are Monday, April 5, 2021 from 4-8 PM at Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. His funeral will begin on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 9:00 AM at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church in Salem, NH. Burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
