Joan (Cote) Gallant

Joan Gallant – Salem, NH

Age 74 and a life-long resident of Salem passed away on Good Friday, April 10, 2020 in her home, surrounded by her 3 children.  She was born in Salem, NH on May 22, 1945 the daughter of the late, Francis and Alice (Bodenrader) Cote.  She graduated from Woodbury High School, Class of 1963.  She had worked for many years as an accounts payable manager for Essex Orthopedics in Salem.  She retired in 2014.

Joan was known for her sense of humor, her big heart, her thoughtfulness and her generosity.  Joan was a special lady who people instantly connected with.  In addition to being the most caring Mom and Grandma, the numerous lifelong friendships she made are a testament to her loving nature.  Hers was always the house where people gathered, and she always had a pot of coffee on for people dropping by.

She got the most joy from being around family and friends, and her favorite place to be was at the beach in the sunshine and salt water.  As soon as the weather was warm enough, she’d be at Hampton Beach or in Newburyport and she loved vacationing on Cape Cod, in Southern California or in the Caribbean.

Joan is survived by her Son, Michael Gallant and wife, Becky of Salem, NH, her daughters; Cathy Gallant and wife, Nikki Panella of Huntington Beach, CA and Heather Gallant and husband, Ken Lachlan of West Hartford, CT and her grandson, Seth Gallant.  Her niece, Karyn Cote, her nephew, John Cote and their families, many cherished friends and 5 grand kittens also survive her.  She was predeceased by her siblings, Betty, Kathy and Frank Cote.

Joan did not like a somber affair and wanted her friends to remember the many, many good times that we shared with her.  There are no calling hours.  A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, at the convenience of the family.  In-lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s honor to the following charities:  Amedisys Hospice Care, Inc., Attn: Amedisys Foundation, 3854 American Way, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816.  Make checks payable to: Amedisys Foundation.  Or to: No Kid Hungry, Share Our Strength, P.O.
