Janet M. Lister – Pelham, NH

Janet M. Lister of Pelham, NH, age 80, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Salemhaven Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem, NH.  She was born in Boston, MA on May 16, 1941 the daughter of the late, Arthur and Rose (Cerow) Hayden.  She was raised and educated in Somerville, MA and graduated from Somerville High School.

She was a longtime resident of Methuen, MA where she raised her family.  She retired from AAA Insurance Agency in North Andover, MA. Janet had worked in their insurance and accounting departments for many years.

In her retirement, Janet had worked as a volunteer at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA.  She was also a former member of the Red Hat Society, where she enjoyed helping with many charitable functions.  Janet was a huge Red Sox fan, just like her father and her brother. She attended games at Fenway numerous times and always caught the games at home as often as possible. Janet was an avid country music fan and enjoyed seeing both Kenny Rogers and Neil Diamond in concert. She will be remembered as an excellent baker, with chocolate chip cookies being her specialty.  In her spare time Janet enjoyed knitting, reading, foliage rides and going out for ice-cream, her favorite desert. Janet’s greatest joy in life was her family. Spending quality time with them was always her top priority. She was a loving mother to her three daughters and a devoted grandmother to her five grandchildren. She also loved her grand dog, Bentley, who was her loyal companion. Family events were Janet’s most cherished times in life, with Christmas festivities being her absolute favorite.

Janet is survived by her daughters; Valerie Leavitt and her husband, Chris of Atkinson, NH, Katherine Siggens and her husband, Thomas of Dracut, MA and Carol Lehane and her husband, Kevin of Pelham, NH.  Her grandchildren; Anna Siggens, Ava Lehane, Emma Siggens, John Leavitt and Madison Leavitt, her sister, Deborah Barchard of New Ipswich, NH and her cousin, Larry Newton of Colorado.  Her nieces and nephews, James Hayden, Rose Leonard, Kristen Garabedian and Kimberly Barchard also survive her.  She was predeceased by her father, Arthur Hayden, her mother, Rose Hayden, her brother, Arthur Hayden, cousin, Edie Previdi, step-mother, Margaret Hayden, brother, Paul Hayden, sister-in-law, Ramona Hayden and her aunt, Phyllis Hurt.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Salemhaven Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Salem, NH for their loving care of Janet in her final days. They will be forever grateful to them for their kindness.

A private funeral service for the immediate family will be held at Goundrey and Dewhirst Funeral Home in Salem, NH followed by burial in Gibson Cemetery in Pelham, NH.
