Glen A. Falklenham – Whitefield, NH

Glen A. Falkenham passed away, with his family by his side, on August 5, 2026, in Littleton, New Hampshire, at the age of 96. He was born on April 16, 1930, in Gilman, Vermont, part of a generation that understood the value of hard work, perseverance, and faith. Those values shaped Glen from an early age and stayed with him throughout his life. As a Christian man, he brought a steady presence, and quiet strength to his family, friends, and community.

Glen spent his earliest years in Dalton, New Hampshire, a small town along the Connecticut River near the Gilman Paper Mill where his father worked. He loved those years in Dalton, exploring the woods, learning to hunt and fish, and working on the Blakslee farm. In more recent years, Dad often reminisced about his days on the farm, where he worked with his horse Rex to hay the fields and pull lumber off the mountain. He attended Lancaster High School, where he and his younger brother Elwin played together on the basketball team. It was also at LHS that Dad met Stan Johnson, a friendship that eventually led to his marriage to Joy Johnson, Stan’s sister.

Glen earned his first bachelor's degree from Keene State Teachers College as an industrial arts teacher in 1951 and soon accepted his first teaching assignment at Lincoln High School in Lincoln, New Hampshire. A few months into that new career, however, he was drafted into the military. Recognizing his intelligence and willingness to work hard, the Marine Corps sent him to radio school, where he had his first exposure to electrical circuit design as a radio repairman before being shipped to Korea. Glen served his country honorably as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, a chapter of his life that reflected his courage, discipline, and sense of duty.

Building on the same determination that guided him through teaching and military service, Glen enrolled at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, where he earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. Those years in Milwaukee also marked the beginning of his married life with Joy Johnson. Together, Glen and Joy moved to Milwaukee and began a marriage that would continue for 60 years.

After graduating, Glen and Joy moved to Salem, New Hampshire, where they raised their family of five children. Dad went on to enjoy a long and accomplished career as an electrical engineer at Raytheon in Bedford, Massachusetts. During his 30 years there, he worked on a variety of defense systems, including the Patriot Missile System. Glen approached his work with intelligence and dedication, earning the respect of his colleagues. His contributions were part of a larger mission, and he took pride in doing his part.

Beyond his professional life, Glen was deeply involved in the Salem community. He was a founding member of the Boys and Girls Club of Salem, New Hampshire, and a longtime member of the Salem Kiwanis Club. Some of his most personal service came through Little League baseball, where he managed each of his three boys’ teams and served for several years as the league’s equipment manager. In those roles, Glen showed up for his sons, their teammates, and the wider community in practical and meaningful ways, doing the work that helped make those seasons possible.

Glen’s greatest joy was his family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joy J. Falkenham, and he carried her memory with him throughout the rest of his life. He is also predeceased by his sister, Rita Blakslee and his brother Dr. Elwin Falkenham.  He is survived by his five children: his sons, Mark Falkenham and his wife Karen (Myette) of Sandown, New Hampshire; Eric Falkenham and his wife Christine (Barriere) of Pinehurst, North Carolina; and Craig Falkenham and his wife Lisa (Champoux) of Derry, New Hampshire; and his daughters, Karen (Katie) Monteiro and her husband Frank of Hooksett, New Hampshire; and Carol Arnold and her husband Enos of Apex, North Carolina.

He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren: Melissa Falkenham, Jacob Falkenham, Megan Munoz, Katlyn Tomkins, Nick Monteiro, Kristina Mahn, Ryan Falkenham, Matthew Falkenham, Kerri Tacvorian, Zachary Arnold, and Samuel Arnold. He was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren. Glen treasured his family deeply, and his love for them was evident in the many ways he supported, encouraged, and cared for them over the years.

Glen found peace and happiness in the outdoors. He loved spending time in the woods, whether deer hunting in the fall or fly fishing for trout. He was especially skilled with a chainsaw and took great pride in maintaining the trails on his tree farm. He was also a gifted woodworker who built tables, cabinets, and other pieces for family members, leaving behind tangible reminders of his craftsmanship and care.

For the last six years of his life, Glen lived at The Summit, a senior living community in Whitefield, New Hampshire, where he made many new friendships and was warmly regarded by those around him. He remained engaged in life and faced his later years with the same steady outlook that had carried him through so many seasons of life.

Glen A. Falkenham lived a long and meaningful life shaped by faith, family, work, service, and the places and people he loved. He will be remembered in the stories his family shares, the work he completed, the friendships he formed, and the example he set through a life well lived.

Calling hours are Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 4 – 6:30 PM at Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 6:30 PM at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at a later date.
