Obituary

George E. Ouellette – Salem, NH

George E. Ouellette, 89, of Salem, NH, died August 10, 2023 at Salem Haven Nursing Home, after a long illness. George was born on January 30, 1934, son of the late Ludger and Aurore (St Jean) Picard in Lille, Maine. George’s mother died shortly after his birth, and George was adopted by Edmund and Laura Ouellette, also of Lille, Maine. George had three older sisters, and nine younger half brothers and sisters from Ludger’s subsequent marriage. He never lost contact and remained close to his father and all the Picard siblings. He also had four older Ouellette siblings by adoption. After the Ouellettes moved to Lawrence, MA, he attended local schools and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1952. After graduation, George joined the US Air Force and was stationed at several Air Force bases in the US and Canada. After his discharge, George continued to serve in the Air National Guard and achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. George was employed as a mechanical engineer at Raytheon and later retired from AVCO/Textron in Wilmington after 25 years of employment there. George was a member of Elks Lodge #65 of Lawrence, MA, and enjoyed playing 45’s there for many years. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and won many local tournaments. George was a dedicated outdoorsman. He took pleasure in snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, and was also an avid hunter. He loved spending time at his friend Dave White’s hunting cabin in Hillsboro, NH.

George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jacqueline (Brazeau) Ouellette; daughter Michelle Wallace and husband Ed of Derry, NH; sons Steven Ouellette and wife Nancy of North Andover, MA, and Kevin Ouellette of Derry, NH. Eight grandchildren, Michael, Jaime, Jonathan, Christopher, Shane, Chloe, Briseis and Emile; five sisters, Joan, Maxine, Gladys, Paulette, and Charlene “Dundi”; three brothers, Leo “Pum”, Tim, and Eddie; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and adoptive parents; sisters Noella, Martha, Lucille, Jackie, Rowena and Patsy; brothers Edmund and Mike; and his faithful dog Chief, who rarely left his side. The family wishes to express special thanks to George’s friends Bob “Nellie” Nalezinski and partner Lucille Lacerte. Their genuine friendship, humor, and many visits over the years were always high points of George’s week, especially in his later years.
