Dominic “Paul” DiMaggio – Atkinson, NH

  It is with great sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Dominic “Paul” DiMaggio Jr. on February 15th, 2025, at the age of 74.

Paul was born on April 28th,1950, in Boston, MA, to the late Emily Frederick DiMaggio and Dominic Paul DiMaggio. He grew up in Wellesley Hills, MA, with his siblings Emily C. DiMaggio and Peter J. DiMaggio. The DiMaggio family spent their summers in Marion, MA, where he and his siblings made lifelong friends.

Holding education in high esteem, Paul’s remarkable educational journey included Fessenden (64’), Deerfield Academy (68’), Brown University (72’), and Boston University MBA.  Paul’s commitment to education extended far beyond his formal schooling through donations and assisting with Brown University’s alumni interviewing program. 

  After graduating, he joined his father in the family business, Delaware Valley Corp. and as CEO he successfully led the company until his passing. Delaware Valley Corp. will continue led by the President and good friend of 35 years, Nash Saadah, and the DiMaggio family.

  In 1972, Paul met his wife, Sally Ricker, in South Thomaston, Maine, while he was building a log cabin with his cousin and best friend, Dr. William “Skip” Schirmer III. Sally and Paul tied the knot during the ice storm of 1986 at Samoset Resort in Rockport, ME. Paul and Sally have continued to enjoy Maine and planned to retire down the road from where their love began. They went on to have two children, Alexander Nelson DiMaggio and Charlotte Ricker DiMaggio. Paul adored his children and enjoyed sharing his worldly knowledge and eccentric humor with them. He was a fan favorite amongst his children’s friends as many viewed him as a father figure and/or a source of unlimited laughs.  

Paul passionately pursued many hobbies, some would say obsessively, including playing the drums, woodworking, attending plays, boating, hunting, fishing, skiing, golfing and more recently politics. He was a self-taught master of all.  He also dedicated himself to his community, serving on the Atkinson town planning board for over 40 years. Most recently, Paul worked tirelessly to preserve and restore the Gilford B. Butler School in South Thomaston, Maine. Through a dedicated effort and community collaboration, the old school will be restored into an active community center.

During a 60 Minutes episode about the Principality of Sealand, Paul experienced an epiphany; with a modest donation and commitment to defend during a time of conflict, D. Paul DiMaggio Jr. could attain his long desired title of “Sir Paul.” However, given his advanced age and diminished interest in physical exertion, Paul made a solemn vow to “fight with his pen” rather than physical combat. His efforts and donation were fruitful as Paul was officially anointed “Sir Paul DiMaggio, Jr of the Principality of Sealand” as evident by his fancy office door plaque.

“Sir Paul” will be remembered for his generosity, quirky antics, desire to teach others, ability to befriend a stranger, and obsessive dedication to all matters close to his heart.

A gathering will be held at Atkinson Country Club on March 3rd, 2025, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to honor Paul and his family. A private service and burial will take place this spring, as well as a celebration of Paul’s life at “Easy St.” in South Thomaston, ME, on August 23rd, 2025.
