Della G. Highfield

Della G. Highfield, 89, of Salem, New Hampshire and Melbourne, Florida, passed away on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024 with her loved ones by her side. We spent the day sharing wonderful stories of our beautiful mom. She honored us on that special day.

Della was born in Revere, Massachusetts to Thomas and Olympia Aucella. She graduated from Revere High School in 1953. Upon marriage Della and Calvin made Salem, NH their family home for over 35 years.

Della’s career as a social worker spanned over 30 years, cumulating as Director for the Community Action Program of Rockingham County, NH. Upon retirement Della spent summers on Sebago Lake, enjoying time spent on their boat with their children and grandchildren. Her winters were spent in sunny Florida at the Americana Resorts in Rockledge. Della enjoyed arts and crafts, bingo, cards, ice cream, trips to Filenes Basement, and most of all making memories with her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Della was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Calvin and her sister Delores Henderson. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Carr and husband Daniel of Wilmington, NC, and Cindi Beattie and husband Stephen of Salem, NH, her son Calvin Highfield and wife Debbie of Hampstead, NH, her sisters Doris Hanlon and Deanna Luongo. Della also leaves grandsons Shawn Gleason (Katherine), Kyle Beattie (Michaela), Troy Beattie (Annemarie), Craig Highfield and Corey Highfield (Allison) and great grandchildren Maeve Gleason, Scarlett Gleason, Grahame Beattie, Maisy Beattie, Emilia Highfield, and Isaiah Highfield.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 9 am to 11 am at the Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral home 42 Main Street, Salem, NH. A prayer service will follow the calling hours at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment services for Della will be at 1pm on Friday at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.
