Dale Bates Obituary

Dale Bates, of Hampstead, NH, passed quietly in his home on February 21, after a long illness. He leaves behind his wife, Jackie, and 4 children, Heidi Bates and Shannon Alston of Virginia, and Kaleigh and Picasso Bates of Hampstead. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and a sister, Cathy Matthews of Indiana.

Raised in West Warwick, RI, Dale, was awarded his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Rhode Island and Masters from Purdue University. He worked primarily at Lucent Technologies as a Quality Engineer and went on to work at MegaFood for 11 years.

Dale loved music, drumming for a number of bands growing up and playing guitar, most notably around campfires. He loved the outdoors, and never passed up an opportunity to camp, hike, canoe or kayak, and of course, fish.

He will be best remembered by his family and friends for his kind and gentle spirit. He was a great husband, father, and uncle, always ready to help coach softball teams, attend plays and football games, and pile everyone in the car for a new adventure. He was quick to offer help whenever needed, be it a couch to sleep on, a strong back to help with a move, and best of all, kind words of support and encouragement.

A private memorial will be held in the spring, and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a local food pantry.

Arrangements are by the Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Salem, NH. To leave an online condolence, please visit Dale’s tribute page at www.goundreydewhirstfuneral.com
