On Saturday November 11, 2023 Charlotte A. Hamilton passed away comfortably and peacefully at home with her husband of 37 years and loved ones at her bedside.
Charlotte was born on June 21, 1934, to Bernice M. (McElroy) and Walter H. (Whitey) Ireland in Des Moines, Iowa. Her family settled on Millville Lake in Salem, NH due to her father’s work with the Rockingham Race Track as a Regulations Judge. Charlotte attended Schoolhouse #5 in her early school years of education which is now located on School Street and part of the Salem Historic District. She then attended and graduated from Woodbury High School where she was head cheerleader.
Charlotte was an active supporter of the Salem community in the 1960’s as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and she was a member of the Pleasant St. Methodist Church and sang in the choir. She loved to sing and dance and participated for many years with the Troop 160 Cub Scout Annual Minstrel Shows.
Charlotte worked as Club House Manager at Crystal Spring Golf Course in Haverhill for over 25 years and then at Indian Ridge Country Club in Andover as their Pro-Shop Manager. She retired as a Secretary from Profit Key International, a Software Provider in 2000. During her retirement years Charlotte worked part-time at the Non-Profit Brain Injured Association in Hudson, NH.
As Crystal Springs Club House Manager, Charlotte coordinated golf tournaments and collected ongoing donations that were used to provide mammogram services to underprivileged women at what is now Holy Family Hospital. She met her ‘love’ Paul on the golf course at the 11th hole 38 years ago. They enjoyed playing together at many golf courses in many states over the years. She of course was the better golfer.
Charlotte married Robert W. Maunsell in the early 1950’s and they had a family of 5 children during the time Robert was in active U.S. Marine training and duty. She later met and married Paul R. Hamilton and embraced and loved his 2 children as her own.
Charlotte is survived by her husband Paul R. Hamilton and 7children, 5 children with her previous marriage to Robert W. Maunsell, Charleen and son-in-law Jay Hart , Bobbi-Lynne Brown, William and daughter-in-law Hope, Melody and son-in-law Tim Bourgeois, Robert and daughter-in-law Martha, and 2 stepchildren with her husband Paul - Marla Lister, Paula and son-in-law Tony Gomez.
Charlotte will be missed by her 7 children, her 26 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews.
Charlotte enjoyed swimming, all things horses and dogs, golfing, gardening, drives along the New England seacoast, telling silly jokes and being with her family and friends.
Charlotte is predeceased by her parents Bernice and Walter Ireland and her brother John J. Ireland, all whom lived in Salem NH for many years.
Charlotte requested a private family service in her home. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Animal Rescue League, 4 SARL Drive, Salem, NH 03079
