Carolyn R. Mueller – Salem, NH
Carolyn R. Mueller age 80 of Salem, NH and Fremont, NH died Friday March 25th with family at her side, after a brief period of declining health.
Carolyn was born in Lawrence, MA to the late, Herbert and Esther (Leopold) Thomas Sr. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School in 1958 and later went on to Katharine Gibbs Secretarial program in Boston. During her school years, she was an accomplished pianist and played the Glockenspiel with the Lawrence High School Marching Band. Her first job was with Raytheon as an executive secretary. She was also a church organist at a Lutheran church in Lawrence. After taking time to raise her two children to high school, she became a guidance secretary at Salem High school for eighteen years, retiring in 2000. Carolyn occupied herself in retirement by babysitting grandchildren, attending their activities, knitting and crocheting, and enjoying their summer home. Carolyn was actively involved with the Salem High School Band Parents Association, helping with fundraising and chaperoning trips. Upon her arrival at Poplin Way Assisted Living in Fremont, NH in August of 2021, she rediscovered her love of playing the piano, and went on to play for several months, delighting residents, families and staff alike.
Carolyn was a long-time summer resident of Cobbetts Pond, Windham, NH. She loved to entertain family and friends and spend time on their pontoon boat. Their favorite vacation places were Walt Disney World and Wolfeboro, NH.
Carolyn was a long-time parishioner of Grace Episcopal Church in Lawrence, and later joined St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Hampstead, NH in 2003. She actively participated in fundraising for both.
Her greatest joy in life was her family, including four grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Arthur in 2015. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Lynne and husband James Horigan of Chester, NH, and her son Scott Mueller and his wife Lesa of Newbury, MA, and her four grandchildren, Nicholas and Tyler of Newbury, MA and Erin and Garrett of Chester, NH. She is survived by her brother Herbert Thomas Jr. and Patricia of North Andover, MA and beloved niece, Maureen Nikitas and nephews Daniel and Steven Thomas. She will be missed by extended family and dear friends.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their support, especially Poplin Way Assisted Living and Colonial Poplin Nursing and their amazing staff during these last seven months.
Visitation will be held from 10 – 11 AM on Monday, March 28th at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 187 East Road, Hampstead, NH 03841. A Funeral Service will follow the visitation at the church at 11:00 AM. A private burial will follow the Funeral Service.
