Caroline F. Rivard – Salem, N.H.
Caroline F. Rivard (née Pettine), 104, of Salem, N.H. passed into the loving arms of her God on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Salemhaven Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born on March 17, 1918, and became the beloved matriarch of a family that includes four children, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Lawrence High School, Carol worked for many years as a stitcher at Paparella Brothers in Lawrence. She moved to Salem with her family in 1959 and began working in the office at K-Mart. She volunteered at the Pleasant Street Food Pantry in Salem until she was 91 years old.
Carol was a long-time fan of the Boston Celtics and enjoyed the music of Frank Sinatra and Neil Diamond. She also was an avid reader and gardener, delighting in the success of her tomato plants each year, and enjoyed watching Dancing with the Stars and Family Feud. These pastimes, however, paled in comparison to the joy she took out of spending time with her family. She never failed, despite her advanced age, to send birthday and holiday cards to her children and grandchildren and had a remarkable memory for special events in the lives of her family members.
She was predeceased by her brother, James Pettine, and sisters, Oswalda DePetrillo and Flora Tabacco. Her second marriage, to Raymond Rivard Sr., lasted for 25 years until his death.
Carol is survived by her son Rick Cinquegrana and his wife, Hope, of Middlebury, Vt.; son James Cinquegrana of Ellsworth, Me.; daughter Joyce Hatfield of Salem; son Raymond Rivard Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Salem. She also leaves behind granddaughter Faith Gong, her husband, Erick, and their five children, Fiona, Campbell, Georgia, Abigail, and Levi of Middlebury, Vt.; granddaughter Kim Cinquegrana and her fiancé, Dave Mitchell, both of Concord, N.H., and her son, Shane Hustus of Manchester, N.H.; and grandson Chris Hatfield and his wife, Lauren Bingham, of Washington, D.C. She was also beloved by many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and -nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, December 8 at Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. A service will follow at 6 p.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Carol’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, per her request.
