Carlos A. Campos of Salem, N.H. passed away on September 10, 2023 at the age of 80 in Washington, D.C. after a short and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his immediate family who will continue to honor his legacy and remember his beautiful smile.
Carlos was born in Concepcion, Peru. He was the oldest of 8 brothers and sisters. He was a loving husband, doting father, adoring grandfather, devoted son and a great friend to his siblings. He became a lawyer because he wanted to help the less fortunate and met the love of his life, Jely, while studying law in Trujillo, Peru. Their love was enduring, they got married in 1973 and together shared numerous adventures and travels in their 50 years together.
He was an avid soccer fan, so much so that it was normal to find him watching decade old soccer games on YouTube. He could not remember how to open his email account but he could find obscure soccer games or classic boxing matches online. He also enjoyed reading and gardening, he looked forward to the spring and the harvest of fresh fruits and veggies every summer. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Carlos. He loved spending time with his granddaughters, playing Parcheesi and Rummikub games with his siblings, and dancing the night away at family gatherings. He had an uncanny ability to find happiness in the small moments and was always ready to share his wisdom with friends and family.
Carlos led a dedicated life of public service both in Peru and in the U.S. He served the Catholic Church for many years and worked tirelessly with the Christian Family Movement to help promote the Christian way of life in families and the community. He was content to honor God via his love of service.
He was very proud of his large and unique family and looked forward to celebrating birthdays and holidays together. He was especially happy to host the annual “Baby Jesus” party. A yearly family tradition that is going strong for almost 35 years. Everyone in the Campos family has wonderful memories and funny stories associated with that party. This family tradition will not be the same without Carlos but will continue as part of his legacy.
Carlos is survived by his wife, Jely; his daughter, Carol; his sons; Carlos Francisco and Francisco Alberto; his son- in- law, Georghios; his granddaughters, Isabela and Sofia; his brother Jose Luis and his sisters, Norma, Dalila, Adriana, Clotilde and Flor and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
