Salem NH — Benjamin Frederick Catania, 87, died Thursday, November 28, 2019 on Thanksgiving Day at the New Hampshire Veteran’s Home in Tilton NH following a brief illness.
He leaves three children, Michele, David, and Nicole; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Mr. Catania is also survived by three sisters; Joan, Susan, and Janice, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Born and raised in Lawrence MA, the son of Frank Catania and Josephine Boragine Catania, he was a lifelong resident of Northern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.
In his early years, Mr. Catania spent most of his time in the Merrimack Valley. After graduating from Lawrence High School in 1950, he joined the Air Force in 1951, where he was Airmen, Second Class. After serving in the Air Force, Mr. Catania met his wife, Cecile Poirier, in Lawrence and they were married in 1957 at Sacred Heart Church.
Mr. Catania known as Ben loved visiting libraries, reading science fiction and dialoging about religion. Ben’s passions were music and dancing. He enjoyed figure skating and sunny summer days at the beach. In his later years Ben spent many hours walking to stay in shape, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday December 6, 2019 from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH. A funeral service and US Air Force Military Honors will follow the visitation at 4:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
