Anna M. (LaBonte) April

Anna M. April - Haverhill, MA

Age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 7, 2020 at Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill. Born on December 13, 1926 in Lawrence, MA, she was the daughter of the late, Ernest and Rose (Grimes) LaBonte.   Anna graduated from Lawrence High School, Class of 1944 and from the Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing.  She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Lawrence General Hospital, the former Bon Secours Hospital in Methuen and retired from Merrimac Dialysis in 1991.

Anna enjoyed making memories for the family. As a single parent, she maintained Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions until her children were grown.  She often packed up her 5 children and sometimes their friends and took them trick or treating, to the beach, camping at the Kancamagus, Cape Cod, San Francisco, Disneyland and even downhill skiing.  She enjoyed reading, travelling, golf, movies and lunches, especially with her lifelong friends, Lana, Gloria and Shirley.  She enjoyed her many adventures with her nurse friend Judy.  She was a proud and devoted grandmother to her 13 grandchildren. 

She is survived by her daughters, Colette Tefft (husband, Robert; former husband Mark) and Joanne Karlinski (former husband, Thomas) and her sons David R. April (wife, Lisa) and Steven April (wife Sheila; and former wife Dianne Pistone). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 2 nieces.  Anna was predeceased by her former husband David D. April and their daughter, Susan M Pizzano and her sister, Eileen Mele.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 11am at St. Monica’s Church, 212 Lawrence St, Methuen, MA 01844 Methuen, and MA.  Please meet the family at the church.

Calling hours are Friday July 17, 2020 from 9 – 11 AM at Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079.  A Graveside Service will follow the calling hours at 11:30 AM in Pine Grove Cemetery in Salem, NH.  In-lieu of flowers, donations may be mailed to Mary Immaculate Nursing Home, 172 Lawrence Street, Lawrence, MA 01841.
