Sally Nakley Obituary

Sally R Nakley, 83, of Londonderry, NH, formerly of Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully on January 17th, at All American Assisted Living Facility, following a lengthy illness.    Born and raised in Lawrence, MA, she was a graduate of Lawrence High.  She was the daughter of the late Habib and Rita (Michael) Nakley.  After many years of employment, Sally retired from the Internal Revenue Service, Andover, MA, where she maintained many friendships into retirement.

For several years during retirement, Sally was an active and vital resident of the Harvest Village condo community in Londonderry.  Her caring nature served her well as member, then Head of the community’s Sunshine committee – she enjoyed running regular Bingo games and organizing monthly themed lunches for her friends and neighbors.  She valued the many friendships in the close knit neighborhood.

Sally was an amazing cook – she made the best stuffed grapes, kibbee, and baklava!  She loved any family gathering, and hosted many Thanksgiving dinners for extended family.  She remembered every family and friend birthday, and all were important to her to acknowledge.  Throughout most of her life, Sally and her 2 sisters were steadfast friends, talking daily, taking regular shopping trips, and celebrating holidays and each other’s life events.  They were close friends since childhood.  With her passing, our family has a void that cannot be filled.

Sally was always a thoughtful, kind and loving friend, aunt, sister, cousin – basically to anyone she was around.  Those who had the good fortune to have her in their lives know what a genuinely selfless person she was.  She will be deeply missed by all of us, and the world is a sadder place without her in it.

Above all, Sally valued time spent with her family, and was proud of us all.  She is predeceased by her brother Louis Nakley of Salem, NH; her sister May Hedges of Salem NH.  She leaves behind her sister Ann Parker of Salem, NH; her niece Patricia St.Laurent and life partner Jeffrey Pilsmaker; her niece Pamela Auer and husband Eric Auer; nephew David Parker; nephew David Nakley; nephew Mitchell Nakley; and niece Rayna Merryfield and her husband Eric Merryfield; and long-time close friend Priscilla Wester; as well as cousins, great-nephews and great-nieces.

Her family would like to thank the Amedisys Hospice of Bedford, NH, and the All American Rose Lane staff of Londonderry, NH, for their wonderful care.  In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to either Amedisys Hospice or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Wednesday January 22, 2020 from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Salem, NH.  A Funeral Mass will be on Thursday January 23 at 10:00 am in St. Anthony Church, 145 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA. (guests are kindly asked to meet at the church).  Entombment will be in St Mary Immaculate Conception Cemetery Mausoleum, Lawrence.
