Marjorie H. Bleakley

Marjorie H. Bleakley (formerly LaCarte), age 99, of Salem, NH., passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Salemhaven Nursing Home. Marjorie was born, raised and educated in Lawrence MA. Marjorie's first job was at Nevins Nursing Home in Methuen when she was age 16. While enrolled in high school, she had to work during the day to help pay the family bills during the great depression. At the same time, she earned her high school diploma by going to night school. At age 22, she began employment at the Pacific Mill in Lawrence, where she worked in the office during World War II.

When her sweetheart "Al" was honorably discharged from the US Army Air Corps, they were married on August 24, 1946. Together they were successful small business owners. After retiring, Marjorie and Al went on several road trips, and eventually visited every state in the continental US. Those who knew Marjorie remember her as having a love of music with a very eclectic taste, ranging from her favorite gospel hymns to Elvis Presley and more! Marjorie was a devoted wife and mother who dedicated her life to her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank-you to the staff at Salemhaven Nursing Home, especially the 3rd floor nurses and aides, for their compassion and devoted care over the past few years.

Marjorie was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Charles "Al" Bleakley, as well as her brother John LaCarte, Sr. formerly of Bourne, MA and her sister Aleta Keogh, formerly of Lawrence, MA., Marjorie leaves her children Thomas A. Bleakley and his wife Ellen of Nottingham, NH., daughter Genevieve and her husband John Serrano of Salem, NH., She also leaves her granddaughter Shanna Hamer and her husband Kevin of Dover, NH., as well as her grandson Christopher Serrano, his wife Jessica and their daughter Zoe of North Smithfield RI., In addition, she leaves a nephew Richard Keogh and his wife Paula of Providence, RI., a niece Linda and her husband Robert Livingstone of Ashland, MA., a nephew John LaCarte Jr. and his wife Lisa of Hebron, NH., and a nephew Wayne Elliott of Azle, TX. as well as several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Friends may call on Friday, August 23, 2019 from 10 to 11 AM at the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Salem, NH., 03079. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Salem.
