Janet (Potvin) Smith

Janet (Potvin) Smith, 86 of Salem, NH, passed away on January 30th, 2019 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH.

Most recently, her home was at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Derry, N.H. We wish to thank everyone at Pleasant Valley for the wonderful friendships and great care she received at that facility. 

Janet was born in Methuen, MA on August 2, 1932 to the late Leo and Stella (Bastek) Potvin. She attended and graduated from the Methuen School System. 

Her career was working in the insurance industry, locally at McCarthy Agency & De Angelis. After retirement, she volunteered at several community services. 

During her lifetime, her interests were beagle dogs and horses. She especially enjoyed small horse cart “buggy” competitions with her husband Bobby. She also enjoyed knitting in her free time. 

Janet was pre-deceased by her loving husband of many years Robert P. Smith (Bobby) and her late sister Patricia (Sister Mary Stella A. Potvin formerly of Caldwell, NJ)

Janet will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her brother, Ronald Potvin and sister-in-law Joan Potvin, and nephew, Micheal Potvin, who were directly involved in her care. She will be sadly missed by her sister, Virginia Haggett and her husband Herman, and her brother, Leo Potvin. Janet is also survived by several additional nieces and nephews. 

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 5th, 2019 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. A service will be held following calling hours at 10:30 AM in the funeral home chapel, with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
