Gerald A. Galvin, 91, of Methuen died on Tuesday December 11, 2012 at The Nevins Nursing, Centre, Methuen. Mr. Galvin was born in Haverhill and was raised and educated in Haverhill and Lawrence. He was a 1940 graduate of Lawrence High School and has lived in Methuen since about 1946. Before retirement in 1980, he worked, for over 22 years, as a Methuen firefighter. He also worked in security at Holy Family Hospital, Methuen for 15 years. Mr. Galvin served with The US Navy aboard The USS South Dakota during WW II. He was a member and past commander of Methuen American Legion Post, # 122 and a member of The Methuen firefighters Relief Association as well as a member of The Methuen Firefighters Union.
The widower of Eileen M. (Lange) Galvin, his family members include his sons, Kenneth J. and his wife, Roseanna M. Galvin of Dracut and Richard M. and his wife, Sandra M. Galvin of Salem, NH. He leaves his brother, John J. Galvin of Melvin Village, NH and his grandchildren, Sean and his wife, Bridget Galvin, Stefanie and her husband, Michael Lynch, Kelly and her husband, Rikhav Shah, Meghan Galvin, Katelyn Galvin and Zachary Galvin and 1 great grandson, Riley Lynch.
Calling hours will be on Thursday December 13, 2012 from 4 to 7 pm at The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. Funeral services will be on Friday December 14 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
