Frank Grzasko Obituary

Frank Grzasko, Jr, 75, of Salem, NH passed away Saturday evening, November 23, 2019 following an extended illness. Frank was born on July 31, 1944 in Oil City, PA the son of Frank Grzasko and Veronica Jane Budzinski Grzasko.  Frank graduated from Oil City High School class of 1963. While attending the Assumption BVM Grade school  he started a legacy of sorts with delivering the Derrick News Paper starting in 1956 which continued for 16 years being passed down to each of his three brothers. Following high school,  Frank attended DeVry University graduating with a degree in Engineering; later in life attending St Anselm’s University with a degree in Criminal Justice.

Frank started his professional career as a field engineer with Honeywell Computers in San Francisco, CA then to the Boston, MA region.  Following his boyhood dream of being a police officer, Frank joined the Salem, NH police department and advanced through the ranks to achieve the rank of Lieutenant. Following his retirement from Salem, PD he became a Sergeant in the Sherriff’s department of Manchester, NH Sherriff’s department. He had much success in his police career and was awarded Police Office of the year in 1983. Frank also achieved the Governor’s Award from NH Governor Jean Shaheen for his role in drug interdiction while on a statewide task force.

In his personal life Frank loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.  He loved hunting, fishing, taking his dog for walks, going to Patriots games plus he was an avid gun collector.  Frank enjoyed traveling and enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii, Alaska and other numerous places.   He always made it a point to get back to Oil City where he grew up to spend time with his family and hunt deer just like he did when he was growing up.

Frank was married in 1966 to Sherry Roberts Scafati who survives.  At the time of his death, he was with his dearest friend Dorothy “Dotty” Faria Heyl.

Frank is survived by his two sons, Joseph Grzasko and wife Tracey Grzasko of Salem, NH, Edward Grzasko and wife Kathleen Grzasko of Auburn, NH, grandchildren, Josh Grzasko, Sean Grzasko, Emma Grzasko, and Marlee Grzasko all of NH. Frank also leaves behind his five siblings, sisters Mary Ann Wheeling, and Kathy (Barry) McClintock, brothers Martin (Vicky) Grzasko, Stan (Sandy) Grzasko, of all of PA and Walter (Anne) of Falls Church, VA.  He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews including Frank Grzasko who he encouraged to follow in his footsteps and is currently with the PA State Police.

Frank was predeceased by his parents, his lifelong love Marsha Leighninger and his “Baby” Annabelle a standard poodle whom he loved as a daughter.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday December 12, 2019 from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH.  A memorial service will follow the visitation at 4:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.  Interment, at a future date, will be in Oil City, PA where he grew up.  The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.  To leave an online condolence, please visit Frank’s tribute page at www.goundreydewhirstfuneral.com.
