Evelyn M. Demers

Evelyn Demers, 78, of Salem, NH, passed away on January 7, 2019 in her sleep at All American Assisted Living in Londonderry, NH after suffering for nine years from Alzheimer’s Disease.  She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert A. Demers and her children Deborah Demers Dustin and her fiancé Melissa Fordham of Fort Myers, FL, David Demers of Salem, NH and Daniel Demers and his wife Tracy of Dover, NH. She is also survived by her five grandchildren; Michelle Dustin, Haley Demers, William Demers, Zachary Demers and James Demers.

Additionally, she is survived by her siblings Alfred & Myrtle Bellemore of Salem, NH, Bernice Parent of Salem, NH, Donald and Carol Bellemore of Groveland, MA and Barbara Gaudette of Salem, NH. She was predeceased by her parents Elphage and Margaret (Krekes) Bellemore of Methuen, MA, her siblings Robert Bellemore, Patricia & Joseph Fichera, Kenneth & Lorraine Bellemore, Theresa Kondrat, William Parent, Francis Gaudette and Richard Bellemore.

Evelyn was an accomplished seamstress, having made clothing, upholstery and even a wedding gown for her family and friends. She was an active parishioner at Saint Joseph Church, serving as eucharistic minister and Catholic educator for many years. During her career she managed the jewelry department at TJ Maxx in Salem for 20 years. She loved visiting with her daughter and granddaughter in Florida every winter where she would also enjoy the Red Sox Spring Training as well as her grandchildren in Dover every chance she could. Evelyn was a loving, loyal and friendly neighbor to those in her community and could be seen gardening, mowing the lawn and socializing with those closest to her. She is remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews as Aunty Evelyn, the hostess to Christmas Eve open houses and pool parties throughout the summers.

A wake will take place on Friday, January 11th from 4-7pm at Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main St, Salem, NH 03079. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Parish, 40 Main Street, Salem, NH on Saturday, January 12th at 10:00 am, followed by Catholic burial.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
