Charles T. McMahon of Salem, N.H., died at Sutton Place in North Andover on Feb. 16th. He was 86.
Born in Newton, MA on Jan. 10, 1932, he was the son of Charles H. and Cora (Clark) McMahon. He was raised in Watertown, graduating from Watertown High School in 1951. After serving 4 years in the U.S. Air Force, he obtained a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Lowell. He worked for AVCO, Honeywell, Sylvania, and Lincoln Labs in Bedford, MA.
Charles was active in local and state politics. He worked as a staff member with U.S. Senator Tom McIntyre for 7 years. He also served as former Chairman of the Rockingham County Democratic Party, former N.H. State Representative, former Chairman of the Salem School Board during construction of the new High School, and served on various Salem boards and committees over a 30 year period.
He was predeceased by his first wife, mother of his six children, Edelgard (Guier) McMahon and daughter Erin Patricia. He is survived by his daughters, Rowena and husband Elliott Pratt of Amherst, N.H., Heidi McMahon of Melbourne, FL., and Kirsten McMahon of Derry, N.H.; his sons, Charles E. McMahon and wife Kim of Windham, N.H., and Chris McMahon of Merritt Island, FL.; his grandchildren, Charles Trevor McMahon, Shane McMahon, Brittany McMahon-Bergeron and husband Nicholas, Ryan McMahon, Sarah McMahon; great granddaughters, Brooke and Noelle McMahon-Bergeron; stepdaughters, Michelle and Susan Taibbi; and predeceased by his second wife, Beverly Boylan.
Friends may call at the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main St, Salem, NH on Wednesday, Feb. 21 from 10-12 noon.
