Barbara D. (Duffin) Howard– Salem, NH
Barbara D. Howard age 89 of Salem, NH passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2024. She was born on April 3,1934 in Dorchester, MA, the daughter of the late John Edward. and Blanche (Folan) Duffin. She was raised and educated in Dorchester, MA.
Barbara was a resident of Salem for over 58 years and worked at AAA of Merrimac Valley in Lawrence, MA for over 20 years, retiring in 1996.
Barbara created a warm and welcoming home where she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially the holidays, surrounded by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and anyone else who needed a place to go. She was an avid reader and well-loved by the local librarians at Kelly library who would try to keep her supplied with books to satiate her voracious reading appetite. Barbara also enjoyed crafting and sewing, making gifts for friends and family.
She was pre-deceased by Jack Howard, her loving husband of 65 years, her brother John (Jack) Duffin and Judy (Duffin) Tessier.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Anne Howard of Littleton, MA, her son, John Howard and his wife, Juanitta of Derry, NH, her daughter, Mary and her husband, Ronald Lutkus of Lowell, MA, her daughter and caretaker, Phyllis Howard and her partner, Michael Holmes of Methuen, MA and her son, Philip Howard and his partner, Jim Sargent of Boston, MA., her five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her brother Paul Duffin of Royalston MA, and many nieces and nephews. Special thank you to Rosalie (Wolf) Sharpe of Salem, NH who has been a loving friend and supporter to Barbara and the entire Howard family for many years.
Calling hours are Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 4-8 PM at Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church in Salem, NH. Burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
