Ralph Philip Vir, age 94, of Salem, NH passed away peacefully listening to his favorite music while surrounded by his wife, Mary, and family on July, 20th 2017. Ralph was born October 2nd, 1922 in Biddeford, ME to William Vir and Beatrice Simineau Vir. While serving in the Navy during WWII, Ralph met his soulmate Mary Agostino and the two were wed on Aug 24, 1944. Ralph and Mary spent 74 beautiful years in love and built a family that adored them. They were twice honored as the longest living married couple in Salem. Ralph worked at Raytheon as an engineer for over thirty years. He was a proud father and grandfather who dedicated most of his time cheering on and attending every family event. He was a skilled carpenter who enjoyed swimming, running, photography, music, and dancing with his wife.
Ralph leaves behind his beloved wife Mary of 74 years; children Bruce Vir, Phyllis Mertz & husband Ken, Donna Barbera & husband Vincent; his sister Rachel Paquette; grandchildren Chris Mertz, Kendra Mertz, Aimee Mertz O’Connell, Nicole Vir Shorter, Heather Vir Hildebrandt, and Jason Barbera; 9 great-grandchildren and an extended family who will all miss him dearly.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 25th from 4-7PM at Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. A funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph’s Church Wednesday, July 26th at 10:30AM with burial to follow at Pine Grove cemetery in Salem, NH with full military honors.
