Mary (Agostino) Vir, age 93, of Salem, NH passed away on September 21st, two months after the death of her beloved husband Ralph.

Born in Boston, MA on September 12th, 1924, she was the daughter of James Agostino and Isabella (Norris) Agostino. She met her late husband while he was serving in the Navy during WWII. They were married on August 24, 1944 and spent 73 wonderful years together. They were both long time members of St. Joseph’s Parish. Mary dedicated her life to her family. She raised three children and enjoyed spending time with her six grandchildren. Mary and her husband were often found cheering on their grandchildren in many sporting events. She always carried with her pictures of her parents, siblings, children, and grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, spending time with family, and dancing with her husband.

Mary will be dearly missed by her children Bruce Vir, Phyllis (Vir) Mertz & husband Ken, Donna (Vir) Barbera & husband Vincent, sister-in-law Rachel Paquette, grandchildren Chris Mertz, Kendra Mertz, Aimee Mertz O’Connell, Nicole Shorter, Heather Vir, and Jason Barbera, as well as 9 great-grandchildren and many extended family and friends.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September, 26th from 4-7pm at the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. The funeral service will be at St. Joseph’s Church on Wednesday, September 27th at 10:30am with burial to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Salem, NH.
