Mary C. (Peters) Dempsey passed away after a short illness at the Merrimack Valley High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, MA on Sunday, November 26, 2017. 

Mary was born on June 13, 1941 in Somerville MA to Edward and Clarissa Dunlea.  She attended St. Clements High School and later in life went onto Middlesex Community College to earn her A.S. in Business.  She retired in 2012 after working 30 years at Centorr Vacuum Industries.  She was a dedicated employee where she made longstanding friendships.

Mary was married to her first husband, William L. Peters, for 19 years before he passed away in 1983.  She lived most of her life in Malden where she raised her two children.  In 1985 Mary began a new chapter in her life with Joseph F. Dempsey, who soon became her husband.  They were married for 30 years and resided in Salem NH.  They enjoyed going to the Cape before buying a second home in Florida that became their winter home.  She loved to be outdoors gardening, filling her bird feeders, sitting on her porch watching the birds and reading a good novel.  Mary enjoyed the Theater and spending time with her family and friends.

Mary is survived by her husband, Joseph F. Dempsey and their dog Lilly; her children: Elizabeth and her husband Daniel Kinsella, Kingston NH, Edward and Angela Peters, Tewksbury, MA; her grandchildren Shannon, Erin, Daniel, Ryan and Brandon; her sister Susan Latta, Marshfield MA, Judith and her husband Peter Clinch, Everett, MA; Her Aunt Phyliss Parlon, Westwood MA and several nieces and nephews.  Mary was predeceased in death by her parents and her sister, Virginia (Dunlea) Zirpolo.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 4-8pm at the Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street Salem, NH.  A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held in Saint Joseph’s Church, 40 Main Street Salem, NH on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 10:30am.  Burial will take place at Winslow Cemetery, Marshfield MA immediately following the mass.
