Loren "Larry" Magoon, 97, of Derry, NH, formerly of Lawrence, MA, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on July 10, 2016 following a brief illness.

Loren was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army.  He went into the army at the age of 24.  He was a communication specialist in the Headquarters Battery 324th Field Artillery Battalion that landed in Normandy 3 days after D-day.  He has five battle stars for being in five major battles including the Battle of the Bulge.  He was also the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon.

Loren was a retired truck driver for Corenco Corporation and he was a member of the Teamsters Local 25 in Boston.

Loren was a lifetime member of the Julian Stopyra Post.  He was an avid bowler and was the past president of the Academy Lanes Senior Bowling league.  He enjoyed golfing, playing bocce and always loved a competitive game of 45's and of course he loved his daily Manhattan.  In his earlier years, he enjoyed traveling to Florida or trips with the Methuen Senior Center. 

Loren was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved family gatherings and the holidays. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Loren was predeceased by his loving wife, Stella who passed away in 1984. He is survived by four children.  Joanne (Magoon) Riley and her husband Thomas of Haverhill, Mass., Carolyn (Magoon) Hamel and her husband Len of Valrico, Florida, Ronald Magoon and his wife Ginger of Windemere, Florida and Marilyn (Magoon) Patinskas and her husband John of Hudson, NH.  He leaves 8 grandchildren, Karen and her husband Timothy, Barry and his wife Melissa, Stacey and her husband Steve, Kevin and his wife Jennifer, Heidi and her husband Ed, Katrina, Jason and Brian. He leaves 7 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Kaitlyn, Adam, Chad, Keith, Lauren and Harper.

He is also survived by nephews, James Magoon and his wife Carol and Larry Magoon and his wife Pauline.  Loren also leaves behind his long-time, loving companion, Gloria Aspell.

Loren's family are extremely grateful to all the kind and compassionate nurses in the ICU at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Salem.
