Albert W. White

Albert W. (Pat) White passed away on Father’s Day June 21, 2015, at Windham Terrace Assisted Living Facility, in Windham, NH.  He was predeceased by his wife Lois E. (Firth) White of Lawrence.

Born and raised in Methuen he graduated from Methuen High School where he was active in sports. 

He entered the Mass National Guard and served honorably the Field Artillery Unit C1020 as a private from 1936 through July, 1937.  On October 5, 1940, he joined the U. S. Marine Corps and served for 11 years, attaining the rank of Master Technical Sergeant.  He fought in land and air battles as a radio gunner on dive bombers in the Pacific Theater and served in the Korean conflict. 

He met his wife and married in 1940.  During their 64 years of marriage they lived in Lawrence, Methuen and upon retirement moved to St Petersburg, FL.  During the 50’s and early 60’s family summer vacations were spent at Wells Beach, Maine.  He and Lois enjoyed Square Dancing, golfing, traveling to Europe and cruising in the Caribbean.  After his wife’s death he continued to live in St. Petersburg, FL for a couple of years before returning to New England and taking up residence in his condo in Salem, NH with his beloved cat, Katrine.

During his professional career he was a Quality Control Engineer with Raytheon, Sanders Associates and Teledyne Electro-Mechanisms, Inc.  Projects he was involved in included the Hawk Missile Program and the TOW missile program.  As a Raytheon QC Engineer he traveled to Japan in the mid-50s to work on destroyer radar systems.  He made many friends while in Japan and his family enjoyed meeting some of the Japanese colleagues when they visited the United States.  In a similar capacity, he visited clients in England and made many friends there while working for Teledyne.

He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Lawrence, MA; St. Vincent’s Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg, FL; and attended St David’s Episcopal Church in Salem, NH. 

He was a member of John Hancock Masonic Lodge in Methuen for over 50 years and was Treasurer of the Lodge for over 15 years.

He is survived by his 2 sons: Kenneth and wife Sharon of Methuen, MA, Gary and wife Christine of Danville, NH; his 3 grandsons:  Robert of Salem, NH, Chad of St. Petersburg, FL, and Kristopher of Methuen, MA; and 2 great grandsons:  Jacob and Tyler of Salem, NH.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Windham Terrace for all of the wonderful care and support they provided to Dad and his family.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday June 25, 2015 from 5 to 8 PM at The Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH. Private graveside services and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
